Psychotherapy is collaboration between a psychotherapist and a client (individual, couple, family or group) The purpose of therapy is to enter into a therapeutic journey in a safe and trusting environment where it is possible to deal with issues of a traumatic or psychological nature.
Building the inner strength and facing the trauma and distress of the past, present and anticipated future, the therapist and client are able to rewire, challenge and learn to deal with the life challenges that brought about the search for therapy.

Psychotherapy provides a safe, unbiased and confidential relationship with a trained professional to assess, understand and treat psychological distress, while also providing the opportunity to adjust and release unhealthy habits. Within a space of safety, psychotherapy can facilitate a heightened awareness and a sense of accountability that can add meaning and a sense of purpose to everyday life.

About the Therapist

Sollie is a Psychologist at Paardevlei Therapy Centre, and he also has a private practice in Claremont.  His exposure to working with children and adolescents comes from his twenty six years’ experience as a teacher.  He was also a head of department and a psychologist for the North West Province Educational Department, while at the same time managing a busy private practice.  This has laid a solid foundation for his knowledge of child development and behaviour and has led to his work within families.  As the family is the cornerstone of society, Sollie believes it is essential to work with all family members, both young and old, when resolving issues.  The older generation can very often shed light and wisdom on current issues and therefore can make a valuable contribution towards restoring harmony both within the home and in society in general.

Testimonials

“Jy’t geweldig gehelp met jou insette, die uitwys en identfikasie van probleemareas en voorstelle vir oplossings en/of hulpmiddels. Dit het ons verhouding met en grootmaak van P…, glo ek graag, in ‘n heeltemal ander baan geplaas. Dit sou eintlik lekker wees om ‘n opvolg in ‘n stadium te doen!”

“I can say without a doubt that having I… assessed by you was the best thing we did for her. I… would have been one of those children who fell through the cracks and we honestly believe we have saved her. I cannot thank you enough.  I… is a bright child and understood that she was running into trouble academically and it placed an enormous mental strain on her.  Your assessment was done with such sensitivity, that what could have added to the low self-esteem she was already struggling with was in fact a positive experience for her”.

“Sollie has been there for my brother through one of the hardest times…., the teenage years of finding yourself and becoming your own person. He has guided him, given him advice and been there for him whilst allowing him to grow and find himself on his own. I am so grateful for the part he plays not only in my brother’s life, but ….. in my family. Thank you for being there for my brother when we can’t be all the time!”

“We want to thank you for the work you did with both our boys – it is much appreciated. You helped them through a crucial period in their lives, and by extension, helped us”.

“Sollie who tested my daughter said with her IQ, she could become an engineer. And that really struck a chord with me, because if I chose not to medicate, my child would have ended up with a clerical job somewhere, what a waste of such great potential!! How incredibly sad would that be? Thank you so much for those words!”
